Away for a Bit

New yarn:

I’m going on a two-week trip. The green summer hat will come with me, and perhaps I’ll finish it, though it will probably fit my younger sister better than me.

It’s a little misshapen, but cute in an awkward way.

Pathetic…

Wednesday, July 2, 2008 · No Comments

…that is, this picture of the crust for Piece O’ Cherry Pie by PieKnits.

It looks sort of crumpled and…sad. I started knitting it for fun and then decided that it would be for my friend’s birthday, which was a week ago, though I can give it to her late with no trouble (assuming I finish it in the next few days). It’s some of the only knitting I’ve done all summer, which is also rather pathetic. I just feel like staying up late, watching movies, baking, filming movies, and doing other things besides knitting.

Also, I never mentioned this ongoing project. It’s not really relevant to current times, but for the past year or so I’ve been knitting hats and booties for premature babies using patterns from the Care Wear organization. They take barely any time at all and use an extremely small amount of yarn.

Above are three hats (two of which need pom-poms), four pairs of booties, and two booties that don’t match. Maybe I was aiming to make a pair, knitted them at separate times, and didn’t do the same size. Regardless, they both need matches. I should get these to the hospital. Eventually.

I’ve never sewed much & never liked it much, but I’m starting to do more of both.

Summer Craftiness

Sunday, June 22, 2008 · No Comments

I haven’t been knitting at all lately, so my sister and I went in some other crafty directions today.

Shirt embellishing:

We ironed on transfers of roosters in honor of our two pet hens in the backyard, Lucy and Ethel.

Beading:

Above is my earring. The daisy is actually a button that I strung on the earring pin.

Above are my sister’s earrings. She got her ears pierced a short enough time ago so that she can’t wear dangly earrings yet, but we’re making her enough pairs so she has a good collection by the time she can wear other earrings.

My yarn basket looms in the corner of my room:

I’ll knit later.

No more pencils, no more books..

Tuesday, June 17, 2008 · No Comments

..no more teachers’ dirty looks. Summer vacation has begun.

The other day at Barnes & Noble, my sister found the book Knitted Bears by Claire Garland. It’s nice if you have a desire to knit bears with clothes. We got it mainly so I could knit a bear dress for my sister’s doll, as they are roughly the same size and her doll (which is made in Germany) has only one dress to wear. Joann’s just recently started carrying this really soft, sheeny bamboo-acrylic blend called Spa, by NaturallyCaron.com.

The yarn is an earthy green color.

The dress:

Also, Joann’s was having good sales on a seemingly random selection of yarns. I don’t need any yarn, but I found two sets of Clover Takumi Bamboo circular needles in sizes 6 and 8, reduced from $8.99 to $1.97.

Normally $18…now, $4.

98…99…100

Exhibit A: Summer is most definitely here.

Summer in Florida = torture, but summertime = more free time, which hopefully = more knitting. However, free time also = more laziness, which does NOT = productivity. I’d like to make a summery cotton hat. We’ll see.

Good Day Sunshine

‘Tis done.

It was well received, although I didn’t do a good job of sewing in the lining. The bag is slightly misshapen, making it hard to sew anything on the inside.

The Purl Beret is moving along slowly. I finished the 1″ ribbing, which is unremarkable to everyone else but a big accomplishment for me.
